It’s great to have a place to store your member data, but some platforms are not extensible in that they don’t let you add in other fields on top of the default fields they give you. Not so with Undershepherd!
Undershepherd offers a variety of custom fields options:
- Short Text Field (Single Line)
- Example: Job Title / Occupation
- Long Text Field (Paragraph)
- Example: Health / Allergy Notes:
- Date
- Example: Baptism Date
- Checkbox (true or false)
- Example: “Has completed membership class?”
- Dropdown
- Example: Spiritual State (Unknown, Non-christian, Professing Believer, Believer)
- File / Attachment
- Example: Signed membership covenant or signed child protection policy
Adding more fields is easy! Go to “Account” >> “Customizations” >> “Custom Fields” >> “Create Custom Field”:
1. Under the “Account” tab, click “Customizations”:

2. Then select “Custom Fields”:

3. Then click “Create Custom Field” to bring up the form to create a new custom field:

4. Next, fill out the “Field Name” and then select the “Field Type” that you’re looking for. The list of field types and explanations are at the top of this post:

5. Once you click “Create” it will show in the list of custom fields:

6. Lastly, go back to a person’s profile and when you click “Edit Person” you will now see the custom field you added under the “Custom Field” heading!
